This department develops activities in the areas of Soils; Crop Fertilization; Plant Mineral Nutrition; Soil Microbiology, including mineral, physical, chemical and biological features. It has expanded its focus by incorporating teaching and research of environmental science to its traditional agronomic themes. It offers undergraduate courses for programs in Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Management and Biological Sciences. Its faculty participates in graduate programs in Soils and Plant Nutrition and also in Agricultural Microbiology.
