ESALQ is among the world’s bests according to the US News and World Report and National Taiwan University Ranking
Two international rankings recently published show the ESALQ leading position in global scale in Agricultural Sciences. Last week, the US News and World Report rated the University of São Paulo (USP) in 5th worldwide place in Agricultural Sciences, in an evaluation that pointed the 97 main higher education institutions in Agricultural Sciences. According to the ranking, the activities considered in this area include horticulture, food science and nutrition, dairy products and agronomics.
“The recent announcement of USP and ESALQ high position in qualified international rankings confirms the institutional visibility and that the seek for excellence will continue as priority in our target plan”, declared ESALQ’s dean, Prof. Luiz ustavo Nussio.
Founded in 1933 as weekly newspaper, the US News and World Report, headquartered in USA, also publishes the Best Global Universities, which rates the 750 best universities in the world. In this general ranking of universities, 10 indicators are considered to measure the performance of the academic research and its global and regional reputation. USP obtained the 117th position among the best higher education institutions worldwide and the first position in Latin America.
According to Professor Francisco Mourão, president of ESALQ Committee of Research, USP position in the international rankings related to Agricultural Sciences is one more recognition of excellence for this university, especially for ESALQ, acting in preparing human resources and developing high-level researches in this field. “Without doubt, the high qualification of the faculty members and its non-docents servants, associated with the developing of projects involving strong actuation of Graduate students and research groups abroad, have resulted in more international visibility in the last years”.
Taiwan – Another listing recently spread was the National Taiwan University Ranking, published since 2007. Its evaluation methodology focuses in scientific publications performance. The instructions are classified from the evaluation of data extracted from the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). In Agricultural Sciences, USP climbed one position compared to 2014 and today ranks sixth worldwide and third place among American continent institutions.
To Professor Pedro Valentin Marques, president of ESALQ Culture and Extension Committee, being among the 100 best schools of Agriculture is, with no doubt, a big honor and a motive of pride to our institution. “Our students are very good prepared to personal and professional life; we are always offering the best and the best human and technical training opportunities with studies in Brazil and internships abroad”.
Fact Sheet – Founded in 1901, ESALQ has awarded 14.361 undergraduate degrees and 8.753 Master and Doctor Degrees. The institution offers 7 undergraduate (Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Economics, Environmental Management, Food Science, Forestry and Management) and 16 graduate programs. ESALQ is configured in 12 departments and counts with 130 laboratories. Nowadays, ESALQ has around 2000 undergraduate and 1150 graduate students, 246 faculty members and 520 technical and administrative employees.
